Gun Control Rebuttal

I must agree with some, but by no means all, of your article.

The problem with "Gun Control" is not really the Constitution, but Practicality, both before and after the writing of the Constitution.

Before, there was no way the people could control their Government, Rulers tended to be either Kings, or Dictators (In one form or another all Dictatorial) the people did as told, or else.

Our Constitution was a "First Attempt" to find another kind of Government, by and large it was, and is, a success, it addresses many of the troubles of the times when it was written, and also put a "Check" (Prevention) against the gradual evolvement into that "Dictatorial" kind (By whatever name) that the founding fathers were so familiar with.

That's why the regulation of firearms was so strictly prevented, to keep this creeping change in our Government from going the way that they so feared, (Government turning Dictatorial) having seen it happen time and again.

And that's exactly what has been happening since then, each change in the gun (Firearms) laws has NOT been "For" the people, but "For" government power.

In modern times we have seen the deliberate misuse of these "Controls" most Notably in World War ll time Germany, where the Duly elected Government evolved from free elections to a dictatorship, with the deliberate misuse of "Gun Registration" to disarm the Citizens, so there could be no "Check" against the Government changing.

Other nations have almost universally proved the Founding Fathers right, Britain has banned guns, and criminals prospered, knives became the weapon of choice, then they were promptly banned too, Australia banned guns, and had an unprecedented increase in crime, Brazil has banned guns, and the crime rate, (Particularly Murder) has soared.

The hard and true fact is that when guns are removed, Criminals do not fear, then crime increases.

Just check the governments where historically guns have been banned, and watch the slide toward Dictatorship. (Pick your name)

There should be gun control laws, but they should consist of only these  regulations

  1. You must be over a certain age (This is a variable, some stares say 16 others 21, standardize it)
  2. You must not be Insane (No argument)

  3. You must not have been convicted of a felony (I note that the laws are creeping to include misdemeanors, this is wrong)

  4. Any regulation, (Size, kind, quantity, serial number registration, type) MUST be prohibited, most especially the "Controls" on "Machine Guns" must be repealed.

  5. ANY purchase, sale or transfer of weapons (Guns, or ammunition and components) must NOT be recorded. (Government then knows where the guns are, and can easily "Confiscate", ((Take, Steal)), them.)

Note that the bans on explosives should stay in place, but must NOT include any kind of Ammunition, Gunpowder (Black or Smokeless) components needed to reload cartridges, or tools needed to manufacture either weapons (Guns) or the Ammunition for them. Nor should any restrictions on Quantity be allowed to exist.

This will keep excesses as the "Raid" on the Branch Davidian "Compound" (Note heavily slanted word used instead of "Church" or "Homes") That was a Military Assault plain and simple.

That's my rebuttal, the Government is trying to reduce it's checks, by changing the laws in it's favor, thereby changing the "Balance of Power between the Government and Citizens" exactly what the Founding Fathers wanted to prevent.

But the Government IS succeeding, and if it is allowed to continue, a slide into "Dictatorship" (Pick your own Name) is inevitable.
